Midtown Center for boys opened in 1965, and Metro Achievement Center for girls opened in 1985. Midtown-Metro Achievement Centers guide low-income urban youth in Chicago along pathways of success through enrichment programs that embrace the dignity of the person. The programs focus on Hispanic and African American youth and offer after-school and summertime growth opportunities that help students of average academic ability to achieve above-average results. Programs embrace students regardless of their religious, racial, ethnic, or familial status and are guided by Catholic moral and social teaching, with the Christian orientation entrusted to the Catholic institution of Opus Dei. Midtown-Metro received its original inspiration from Opus Dei and continues its partnership with this institution of the Catholic Church. The organization reports that 100% of its students graduate high school, has provided more than 14.5 million hours of academic tutoring and virtue development, and that nearly 22,000 students have experienced the “Midtown Way.” Micheil Pruni serves as the Director of the Midtown Achievement Center in Chicago.
