About

NISRA Summer Day Camps include games, storytelling, sports, arts & crafts, singing, skits, water fun, and swimming. Camps will be swimming two days a week during the 2025 season.

• Schedule: 2025 Summer Day Camps run Monday, June 16 – Thursday, July 31, with two registration sessions: Session 1 (June 16 – July 3) and Session 2 (July 7 – July 31)

Families are notified of swimming days and locations in a welcome letter sent by e-mail in May, and participants registering for programs with transportation indicate their transportation choice on the registration form. Forms required to complete registration are the Registration Form, Camper Information Form, Medication Permission Form if needed, and Seizure Questionnaire Form if needed. Camp registration is offered in two sessions with the option to register for either session or both, with no prorating and payment in full required for either or both sessions. An assessment is needed for all first-year campers for Camp Adventure, and Camp Independence is not an option for first-year campers. Huntley school district camps, Camp Discover and Sunrise, will be closed Thursday, July 3. NISRA’s accessible buses provide community access for participants, and limited door-to-door service may be available for in-district residents with physical limitations. NISRA will comply with the ADA and will make reasonable accommodations in recreation programs to enable participation by an individual with a disability who meets essential eligibility requirements.

Since 1976, children and adults of all ability levels have taken part in weekly programs, special events, camps, and trips each year. NISRA welcomes participants of all ages and ability levels, including preschoolers, children, teens, adults, and senior adults, and many programs focus on skill development, socialization, and independence, with close staff-to-participant ratios. NISRA’s mission is to enrich the lives of people with disabilities through meaningful recreation experiences. The leadership team for summer day camps includes Jordan Chandler, Manager of Summer Day Camp, and Jim Wiseman as the contact for ADA questions. NISRA serves residents with disabilities in 13 northern Illinois communities through a cooperative of park districts and cities. NISRA has received Level A Accredited status in its Loss Control Review by the Park District Risk Management Agency, has twice earned the national Gold Medal Award for excellence in park and recreation management, and in 2020 achieved Illinois Distinguished Park and Recreation Agency status.
