About
Danville Ambucs Summer Camp is a weeklong day camp that takes campers to many places throughout the Danville area. Lunch and snacks are provided daily, and transportation is provided by bus with pick-up and drop-off points located throughout Danville and surrounding areas.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Weeklong day camp sessions from July 21–25, 2025 for ages 5–10, and July 28–August 1, 2025 for ages 11–21
• Price: There is no cost to the family or child to attend; the camp is provided free of charge, with costs underwritten by a grant from the Julius W. Hegeler II Foundation and proceeds from the AMBUCS Annual Home Show and the Annual Children with Disabilities Raffle held in October
Danville Ambucs Summer Camp is open to any child or young adult ages 5–21 who has a specific disability, including cognitive disability, orthopedic impairment, visual impairment, hearing impairment, multiple disabilities, or Autism. There are two one-week camps, one for campers ages 5–10 and another for campers ages 11–21, and young adults ages 11–21 are not eligible to attend if their primary disability is a learning disability. A nurse is provided to dispense medicine and handle minor healthcare needs, and any camper with extraordinary medical requirements must have those needs met by professional medical personnel other than the camp nurse, provided at the expense of parents or guardians. Families are asked not to send food or drinks with their child unless the child requires a special diet.
Danville Ambucs states its mission as inspiring people to conquer challenges related to mobility and independence through a nationwide network of volunteer chapters, working in partnership with physical, occupational, and speech therapists by providing Amtryke adaptive trykes, scholarships for therapists, and many forms of community service. The organization describes its community involvement as striving to ensure that donations support needs, events, activities, and projects that fulfill this mission, with donations and volunteerism contributing to that effort. The leadership team includes Diane Carlton (President), Tara Wright (President-Elect), Thelma Grave (Secretary), Dean Carlton (Treasurer), Frank Wright (Director), Connie Damery (Director), Cindy Blacker (Director), Patrick Halloren (Director), Jenna Wirth (Director), Krista Cummings (AmTryke Coordinator), and Abby Carlton (Big Hat President).
