About

Danville Ambucs Summer Camp is a weeklong day camp that includes daily lunch and snacks, with a nurse on site to dispense medicine and handle minor healthcare needs. Transportation is provided by bus, with pick-up and drop-off points located throughout Danville and surrounding areas.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Weeklong day camps held July 21–25, 2025 for ages 5–10, and July 28–August 1, 2025 for ages 11–21
• Price: There is no cost to the family or child to attend; the camp is funded by a grant from the Julius W. Hegeler II Foundation and proceeds from the AMBUCS Annual Home Show and the Annual Children with Disabilities Raffle

Danville Ambucs Summer Camp is open to children and young adults ages 5–21 who have a specific disability, including cognitive disability, orthopedic impairment, visual impairment, hearing impairment, multiple disabilities, or Autism. Young adults ages 11–21 are not eligible to attend if their primary disability is a learning disability. Lunch and snacks are provided daily, and families are asked not to send food or drinks unless the camper requires a special diet. Any camper with extraordinary medical requirements must have those needs met by professional medical personnel other than the camp nurse, and those personnel are provided at the expense of parents or guardians.

The Danville Ambucs leadership team includes Diane Carlton (President), Tara Wright (President-Elect), Thelma Grave (Secretary), Dean Carlton (Treasurer), Frank Wright (Director), Connie Damery (Director), Cindy Blacker (Director), Patrick Halloren (Director), Jenna Wirth (Director), Krista Cummings (AmTryke Coordinator), and Abby Carlton (Big Hat President). The organization’s stated mission is inspiring people to conquer challenges related to mobility and independence through a nationwide network of volunteer chapters, working in partnership with physical, occupational, and speech therapists by providing Amtryke adaptive trykes, scholarships for therapists, and many forms of community service. Danville Ambucs states that donations and volunteerism support needs, events, activities, and projects that fulfill this mission.
