About
Woodlawn Arts Academy Programs offer activities in drawing, painting, photography, clay, glass, mixed media, cooking, baking, dance, music, theatre, woodworking, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) concepts, and literary arts. Visual arts options include both 2D and 3D art, and the Academy also offers private visual arts lessons. The program includes private and group music instruction and classes, student theatre programs in which every student who registers gets a part, and education programming that uses the arts along with Core Curriculum and STEM concepts.

Year-round daytime and evening instruction is offered in visual arts, music, dance, theatre and culinary arts, along with education programs that include a Preschool program and STEM and literary arts programming. One-day and multiple-day workshops run throughout the year in different arts areas, and summer programming includes camps in individual arts disciplines and mixed-genre camps. Woodlawn Arts Academy’s culinary programs get students in the kitchen to teach them cooking and baking, and most culinary programs are held off-site with partners The Kitchen Incubator of Northwest Illinois and Whiteside Area Career Center.
Woodlawn Dance Academy, housed within Woodlawn Arts Academy, is an established dance studio with three professionally equipped dance studios and offers many styles of dance for ages 3 and up. Woodlawn Arts Academy’s student theatre programs are open to all, and theatre participants have the chance to act, sing and dance, and learn auditioning tips, costuming and set design. During the course of a year, the Academy offers four art exhibits featuring professional artists from the area as well as students, four musicals featuring students in 1st through 8th grades, a summer outdoor theatre production featuring adult actors, three annual dance recitals featuring dancers age 3 through adult, two music recitals starring students age 4–adult, and three rock concerts starring students age 12–adult.
Programs are taught by dedicated, educated and experienced staff members. Woodlawn Arts Academy is a nonprofit 501(c)3 educational organization and acknowledges support from the Illinois Arts Council. The Academy offers more than $21,000 annually in financial assistance to those who qualify. Woodlawn Arts Academy is the premier arts-based, educational institution of the Sauk Valley area and uses the motto, “Where the Arts are for EVERYONE!”
Woodlawn Arts Academy offers outreach theatre programs with Dixon Public Schools and Rock Falls Middle School through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant with the Sterling-Rock Falls Y, and also offers arts outreach programming to local schools and organizations. The Academy is supported as an agency of the United Way of Whiteside County and United Way of Lee County. Woodlawn Arts Academy is also described as a great place to bring a field trip and can offer indoor and/or outdoor programming for groups of different ages and sizes in many arts disciplines.
