Elburn Summer Camp includes group activities, games, sports, exploration, and a weekly field trip. Campers take part in creative art experiences, arts and crafts, songs, and swim days. The program also includes directed games and skill-building activities.
• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Session June 1–August 7, Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
• Price: Registration: $25 (Non-Refundable); Weekly Deposit: $10 weekly deposit due at registration (Non-Refundable); Reserve Weeks: $10/week fee due at registration; Family Members: $246/week; Members: $262/week; Non-Members: $267/week
Field trip days are on Tuesdays, and swim days are on Fridays, with weekly field trips tied into weekly themes. Lunches and snacks are not provided, and families send a morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack, with refrigeration available onsite except on field trip days. Elburn Summer Camp is a program of the Kishwaukee Family YMCA, which has been recognized in the 2025 DeKalb County’s Finest Readers’ Choice Awards. All camp staff are carefully selected and screened, complete state and national background checks, and are trained in CPR and First Aid, child abuse prevention, child development and behavior management, risk management and emergency preparedness, aquatics and swim safety, bullying and peer pressure awareness, and field trip and bus safety. Many staff members are 18 or older, returning staff, work during the school year in before and after-school programs, and complete a minimum of 40 hours of training before camp, with many working on degrees in education, psychology, family, or social services. The leadership team includes Youth Development Director Aaron Confer, and the camp is described as having professionally trained and enthusiastic staff, with no two days the same. The mission statement notes that campers take part in directed games and skill-building activities to work on improving their social and emotional skills in a supportive and safe environment.
