Ballet Folklorico Sones Mexicanos was founded at the end of 2010. The founder and director is Claudia Alejandra Gutierrez. Classes are taught by three teachers with more than 25 years of combined experience who have continued their training to bring new repertoire. The stated purpose of the program is to create a safe, motivating, and instructional space for the community to learn and continue traditions of Mexican folklore through dance.
Ballet Folklorico Sones Mexicanos is described as an instructional and performing Mexican folkloric dance ensemble in Chicago, Illinois, and functions as a year-round performing group at local and international levels. The group has performed in Lloret de Mar, Spain in October 2023, with Disney Performing Arts in Florida and Orlando, and has upcoming performances in Italy and Mexico.
