Spotlight Performance Academy

Spotlight Performance Academy offers classes such as "Spotlight Theater: Movement and Rhymes," where children discover how to use their bodies and voices, and "Spotlight Theater: Movement, Monologues, and Scenes," which includes theater games, acting exercises, a monologue, and a scene at the end of the session. Other offerings include "3 Minutes in the Spotlight," a relaxed, performance-focused vocal class; "Pop Culture Dance," with combinations set to songs from Theatre, TV, Movies, TikTok, and YouTube; and "Throw Down 101 Dance Fitness," with routines inspired by viral dances.

• Live Lines and Movements: Adult Drawing Class — 18+ · Mondays, 6:00-8:00 p.m. · $200 · Charcoal and pastel drawing from live observation.
• Outspoken: Poetry Workshop for Adults — 18+ · Tuesdays, 6:00-7:00 p.m. · $90 · Spoken word poetry and prose workshop; possible performance on October 24th or December 12th depending on session.
• Pop Culture Dance — Teens and Adults · Tuesdays, 7:00-8:15 p.m. · $120 · Dance combinations set to songs from Theatre, TV, Movies, TikTok and YouTube.
• Spotlight Theater: Adults Acting Out, Murder Mystery — 18+ · Wednesdays and Thursdays, 7:00-9:00 p.m. · $150 · Acting skills class with theater exercises, monologues, scenes, and a 1-act Murder Mystery play; performance on 1/16.
• Spotlight Theater: Movement and Rhymes — Kindergarten - 2nd grade · Wednesdays, 4:00-5:00 p.m. · $180 · Children discover how to use their bodies and voices; 6 weeks.
• Spotlight Theater: Movement, Monologues, and Scenes — Grades 3-6 · Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 p.m. · $180 · Theater games and acting exercises; each actor will perform a monologue and scene at the end of the session.
• Storytelling for All — 18+ · Thursdays, 7:30-8:30 p.m. · $110 · Discovering and developing stories in a supportive environment; performance on October 24th.
• Throw Down 101 Dance Fitness — 16+ · Mondays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. on 9/14, 9/21, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, and 11/2 · $120 · Dance fitness class with routines inspired by viral dances.

About the provider

The program began in 2015 as the Bel Canto Children’s Choir, expanded to adult programming in 2022, and is now Spotlight Performance Academy. Its mission is to support students of the arts in the south suburbs of Chicago by providing educational programming and performance opportunities so the community can thrive. Bel Canto students have also participated in multiple community service projects that have benefited many local nonprofit organizations.

Registration for the Fall 2026 Session is now open. Registrations received after September 1st will be accepted as space allows and subject to a 10% late registration fee. Tuition assistance is available: Payment Plan, Sibling Discount, Partial Scholarship, Full Scholarship.
