Grace Christian Academy (formerly Grace Baptist Academy) was established in 1973 as a ministry of Grace Baptist Church. The junior high was added in 1975, and a high school program was added two years later. Grace Christian Academy joined the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) in 2001. Grace Christian Academy is recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education and is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). It is a ministry of Grace Baptist Church, based in Kankakee and serving neighboring counties.

Every subject at Grace Christian Academy is taught through a Biblical lens, and students take dedicated Bible classes that cover doctrine, philosophy, and theology. Weekly chapels include speakers from within the institution and from community leaders. Students from all faith backgrounds are welcome at Grace Christian Academy. Co-curricular programs extend this approach to holistic development and are described as cultivating life skills such as teamwork and leadership. From grades K3 to 5, co-curricular activities are tailored to stimulate curiosity and introduce students to diverse interests. In junior high, co-curricular activities focus on deepening interests, fostering commitment, and promoting a balanced approach to learning and exploration. In secondary grades, co-curricular activities encourage students to take on leadership roles, mentor younger students, and prepare for post-academic pursuits. Extracurriculars are described as pathways to personal growth and community engagement, and each club, sport, and organization is described as an opportunity to live out Biblical teachings in different settings. Across all grade levels, activities align with the academic ethos and reinforce a commitment to producing well-rounded individuals anchored in faith and purpose.

Parents describe Grace Christian Academy as “a home away from home” and “a safe place to be loved, to grow, and learn not only academically, but spiritually.” Parents also say their children “continue to grow spiritually because of the intentional leading of your staff” and that they are “very thankful for GCA and support the staff and leadership 100%.” One parent states they are “extremely grateful for Grace placing the importance of discipleship and not just information transfer,” and another appreciates “the teachers and admin and their willingness to educate and develop students to their full potential.”
