Grace Christian Academy (formerly Grace Baptist Academy) was established in 1973 as a ministry of Grace Baptist Church, with a junior high added in 1975 and a high school program added two years later. Grace Christian Academy joined the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) in 2001. The school is recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education and is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). The mission statement for Grace is that it seeks to pursue wisdom through the development of relationships, instructions, and services. Co-curricular programs are described as cultivating life skills such as teamwork and leadership, with activities tailored from grades K3 to 5 to stimulate curiosity and introduce diverse interests, a junior high focus on deepening interests and promoting a balanced approach to learning and exploration, and secondary programs that encourage leadership roles, mentoring younger students, and preparation for post-academic pursuits. Extracurricular programs are described as pathways to personal growth and community engagement, with an emphasis on integrating Biblical truths in each club, sport, and organization. Every subject is taught through a Biblical lens to provide a Christian worldview, and students engage in dedicated Bible classes covering doctrine, philosophy, and theology, along with weekly chapels for spiritual enrichment. Juniors and seniors have the option to enroll in online dual-credit courses. Grace Christian Academy is a ministry of Grace Baptist Church, is based in Kankakee and serves neighboring counties, and hosts weekly chapels that feature speakers from both within the institution and from esteemed community leaders. Parent comments describe the school as a “home away from home,” express appreciation for spiritual growth and discipleship, and note support for the staff and leadership, as well as appreciation for teachers and administration and their willingness to educate and develop students to their full potential.
