Children are provided nutritious meals meeting all the food groups for breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack.
• Schedule: Children attending the year round After School Program automatically have spots in the limited Summer Program
Catch A Star Learning Center, which runs the Shooting Star Summer Program, has been a Macomb child care facility for over twenty five years. The leadership team includes Director Kimberly Hare and Assistant Directors Amie Bartold and Krissy Hagen. Staff members are highly trained skilled adults who meet DCFS requirements, have cleared fingerprinting and background checks through the Sex Offender Registry, Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System, Illinois State Police, and FBI, train in-depth on child care and child-development milestones, are certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED, and complete 20 hours of training each year. Catch A Star educators may have a college education, Child Development Associate, Early Childhood Education Certificate, Gateways Early Childhood Education Credential, Gateways Infant-Toddler Credential, School-Age Credential, or an Illinois State Teaching Certificate.
Children in the program have access to their own bathroom, a gymnasium for rainy days, an outdoor natural classroom, and two outdoor playgrounds. The program follows Catch A Star’s stated belief that each child is a unique individual with special abilities and needs, and that children need experiences in math, science, music, and pre-reading skills that involve their bodies and senses and stimulate their curiosity. The mission also states that children should be encouraged to create their own art work, play spaces, and games, and that children need time and encouragement to play because through play they learn to relate to others, solve problems, explore ideas, and control the environment. Catch A Star has been voted the Best Daycare of 2021 by the McDonough County community.
