Camp WeWoSeJe stands for “We would see Jesus” and is an inter-denominational faith based camping ministry of InFaith. Its stated purpose is to evangelize, congregate, and disciple the yet unreached people of Southern Illinois and the surrounding areas with an emphasis on youth, and it states that it has been committed to reaching America for Christ since 1961. InFaith, of which the camp is a ministry, has roots going back to 1790 and was officially formed on May 13, 1817.
The camp specializes in providing a camping experience for youth who typically can’t afford to go to camp and keeps camp affordable in part by relying on volunteers to serve as first-aid providers, lifeguards, construction workers, plumbers, song leaders, and teachers. Other ministries connected with Tim and Vivian Hoffman include teen clubs, Bible studies, church ministry, discipleship programs, a bus ministry, and college retreats.
Emily serves as the Program Director for Camp WeWoSeJe, Sheldon oversees media and communications, and Tim and Vivian Hoffman are the Camp Directors, with Tim also serving as a Field Director ministering to other InFaith missionaries and their families. Camp guidelines state that cell phones and electronic devices are not permitted, food, snacks, and candy from home are not allowed, and visitors or visitation hours are not allowed. Campers are asked to bring clothes for a week of camp, bedding, personal hygiene items, a Bible, pen or pencil, notebook, and optional money for Canteen and Evening Chapel, and to follow a modest dress code that includes fingertip-length shorts, specific strap widths, one-piece swimsuits, and shoes required at all times; Super Teen Camp campers also need clothes for a banquet on Friday night.
