Chris McConnell is a PGA member who has instructed adult and junior golfers for over 25 years, including more than 15 years in the Chicagoland area, has conducted over 15 junior camps and 10 adult clinics, and teaches an average of 600 lessons annually, with experience in golf schools such as Jack Nicklaus/Jim Flick and John Jacobs. The leadership team for the program includes Tyler Wollberg, PGA, TPI, General Manager and Head Golf Professional; John Andrews, PGA Teaching Professional; Chris McConnell, PGA member; Ken Field, former PGA professional; Bill Andrews, experienced youth coach; Lauren Bunks, Visual Merchandiser and Soft Goods Supervisor; and Taylor Stout, Certified Club Fitter. The program’s mission states that the Pine Meadow Golf Club PGA Jr. League is dedicated to creating an environment of learning, respect and fun that will promote the game of golf as an individual and family activity for a lifetime of participation and enjoyment, and it is committed to enriching lives through experiences that transcend golf, with core beliefs that every child can become a golfer and every golf course can become a community center.
Pine Meadow was originally designed by William Flynn in 1927 and reopened in 1985 after a redesign by Joe Lee, Rocky Roquemore, and Joe Jemsek, and it was rated the No. 1 best new public golf course in America by Golf Digest in 1986. It continues to be ranked among the top 10 public access courses in Illinois. The learning center and practice facility are described as the best of their kind in Northern Illinois, and it is noted that it is not unusual to see a PGA or LPGA Tour player using the facility when in town. The facility blends teaching and fitting for total integration of a golfer’s game and equipment, and the course features seven sets of tees from 7,238 to 5,272 yards, 35 acres of fairways, 86 sand and 3 grass bunkers, 220,000 square feet of tees and greens, and fairways bordered by 250-year-old oak trees, 60-foot tall pines, maples, and shagbark hickory trees.
