Stacee's Art Room
Stacee's Art Room, 19521 W. University Drive, Mundelein, IL 60060
About
Stacee's Art Room offers fine art lessons for all ages, including art classes for children, Advanced Studio Art, Jr Studio Art, and Art Club. The program also offers no school camps, a summer ART camp, face painting, art to order, adult workshops, and parties and events.
• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: Classes and clubs meet in 5-class sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at various times between 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm
Stacee's Art Room is led by artist and founder Stacee Kalmanovsky, who holds a BFA (2004) and an MFA (2012). The mission of the program states that through material study and experimentation all ideas are brought into creation, that every child is an artist until they forget, and that the instructor engages students with classical and contemporary methods while encouraging creativity, self expression, and an open mind, and is present every step of the way to make sure each young artist has the tools and skills to realize their artistic intention. The Art Room was established six years before the statement in which Stacee notes feeling thankful to be doing what she loves most. Stacee immigrated to Chicago from Belarus with her family in 1989, lived in Florence, Italy for over five years between her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees, was classically trained by Leonid and Sonya Osseny, and received her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Chicago in 2012. She has exhibited in the United States, Canada, and Italy and continues an art practice focused on paintings with ink on paper, collage, and sculpture, including a large-scale installation titled Rain, made of crystal, glass, and plexiglass beads on acrylic thread and suspended under a large skylight, which has been published in various international design magazines and blogs.
The program is involved with the Mundelein Park District. The Art Room Camp Cancellation Policy states that camp days are nonrefundable and that families are responsible for the full cost if a registered day is missed, since space is limited and a spot is held for each child. A parent testimonial from Diana P. of Highland Park describes Stacee as a beyond talented teacher who is amazing with kids, notes that her children would wait all week for their art lesson and that she had never seen them so excited for any other classes they had taken, and mentions that the art projects were very impressive.
