The Oak Forest Park District states that its mission is to enhance community morale by providing a variety of recreational opportunities, programs, special events, activities, and trips to all individuals, and to do so in a way that brings the community together in a friendly and safe atmosphere. The district is updating a Comprehensive Master Plan to guide the next five years and is replacing play equipment at Avenues Park while adding physical fitness equipment along the path. The Board of Commissioners consists of five elected officials, each serving six-year terms, and board meetings are open to the public. The Director of Parks and Recreation previously served 14 years as a Recreation Supervisor, and the leadership team includes Kirstin Dahm as Director of Parks & Recreation and Cindy Grannan as a previous Director. The district invites individuals with a talent or interest to partner with them to offer classes to the community.
