Storm Dance Alliance was opened in 2003 by Brook and Tim Langkan. Brook Langkan is described as a lifelong dancer and educator, and Tim is described as a business operations expert and lifelong support to Brook and the studio. The studio states a mission to provide a prestigious and cutting edge dance education in a positive yet challenging environment, and to promote excellent values, family involvement, and a healthy well-rounded lifestyle for dancers. The program provides classes for dancers of all ages, levels, and experience, with options from beginner to pre-professional, as well as adult classes, an academy program for non-competitive dancers, and two levels of competitive programs for competitive and pre-professional dancers.

Storm Dance Alliance reports over 20 years of bringing dance to the greater Illinois area and states that it has become a force in the dance community over that time. The studio notes that it has award winning instructors, award-winning choreographers, and industry leading instructors. It has been voted a top 10 studio in the northwest and a top 10 studio in the midwest. In 2010, Storm Dance Alliance received the Federation of Dance Competition’s Studio Excellence Award, and in 2011 it finished in the top 25 studios in the Midwest and brought home 7 national championships. Since that time, Storm reports winning countless top studio awards and national titles.

The program presents an annual Nutcracker Ballet that utilizes the talents of Storm and community dancers, with a cast that has grown to over 200 dancers each season. Brook also created the Holiday Charity Showcase, which benefits local families in need each Christmas season.

Parent testimonials describe the studio as providing quality dance education and mention that students learn dance and support for one another. Parents report that their children have learned a lot from the teachers and staff, enjoy entertaining performances, and have progressed from classes to small dance teams and then to competition teams. Some parents state that teachers have become like family and that dance at Storm has had positive effects on their children’s confidence, self-esteem, and character.
