Adagio School of Performing Arts offers Intro to Dance I for ages 3-4, a 45-minute combo class that mixes ballet and tap for beginners. It also offers Intro to Dance II for ages 5-6, Ballet 7+, Jazz 7+, Hip Hop 5+, Contemporary 10+, Tumbling 5+, and Leaps & Turns 10+.   • Contemporary 10+ — 10+ · Unique expressive style blending ballet, jazz, and modern; focuses on emotional expression, fluidity, and improvisation.
  • Jazz 7+ — 7+ · Teaches jazz techniques and vocabulary with warm-up, exercises, combinations, and performance skills.
  • Hip Hop 5+ — 5+ · Based on an American dance form; students learn tap technique, vocabulary, coordination, rhythmic variations, and performance skills.
  • Intro to Dance I — 3-4 · 45-minute combo class mixing ballet and tap for beginners.
  • Intro to Dance II — 5-6 · 45-minute combo class building on Intro I with more complex ballet and tap skills.
  • Tumbling 5+ — 5+ · Beginners focus on motor skills, flexibility, strength, and skills like rolls, handstands, cartwheels, and splits; advanced class includes walkovers, limbers, aerials, and contortion skills.
  • Leaps & Turns 10+ — 10+ · Conditioning and skill work to improve leaps and turns, with progressions across the floor and center work.
  • Private Lessons — One-on-one instruction available year-round based on teachers’ schedules.
  • Competition — For Senior, Teen, Pre-Teen, Junior, and Mini dancers; summer choreography and competition season begins in September.

  • General schedule: Classes at the studio range from 45 to 60 minutes. Intro I and Pre-level classes are 45 minutes. All other classes are 60 minutes. Dance classes are conducted daily.

About the provider

The program’s main focus is on the individual’s growth as a dancer and as a person. Its mission says the studio encourages students to work hard, strive for improvement, have self-discipline, and be respectful of others and for the art of dance. Staff members have earned college level degree and training in dance performance and teaching, and the studio is described as an ADCC Studio of Excellence 2022. Students may perform in Adagio’s annual Summer Dance Festival and travel with the award winning competition team, and dancers work with professional artists from around the country during workshops and choreography classes.

Competition team members are required to maintain training throughout the summer months. Private lessons are available year-round based on teachers’ schedules. Intro classes are 45 minutes; all other classes are 60 minutes. The studio is located at 302 W Main St., Ottawa, IL 61350.
