About

Palos Heights Parks & Recreation Summer Camps offer activities such as crafts, games, songs, stories, art projects, sports, swimming, team building, field trips, and a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. Kiddie Camp takes place under the guidance of experienced counselors. Summer Camp includes different themes each week and goes to the pool and on field trips, and Teen Camp is for 6th to 8th graders who are looking for new and exciting things to do in the summer.

• Ages: 3–13 years old
• Schedule: Camp options run June 10th to August 9th, with Kiddie Camp, Summer Camp, and Teen Camp offering both Monday–Wednesday–Friday and Monday–Friday schedules, plus before care from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and after care from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The program states that its goal is to provide a safe environment and positive experience for children in the summer. Counselor-to-camper guidelines are 1 counselor for every 6 youth ages 3 to 5 years, 1 counselor for every 8 youth ages 6 to 8 years, and 1 counselor for every 10 campers ages 9 to 12 years. The Palos Heights Parks and Recreation Department is an equal opportunity employer.

Summer Camp Counselor positions are seasonal, part-time roles, with hours not to exceed 40 hours per week. Counselor qualifications include being at least 18 years old, with exemplary candidates possibly hired at 16 or 17, current First Aid/CPR certification or the ability to obtain it within three months of employment, experience with children in an organized setting preferred, and the ability to work within a team structure.

Families are asked to send specific supplies for each camp. Kiddie Camp supplies include a light snack, water bottle, change of clothes, backpack, travel hand sanitizer, spray sunscreen, box of markers, box of crayons, glue sticks, scissors, and a pencil box, with all items labeled with the child’s first and last name. Summer Camp supplies include a sack lunch, snack, water bottle, change of clothes, backpack, travel hand sanitizer, spray sunscreen, box of markers, box of crayons, glue sticks, scissors, and a pencil box, also labeled with the child’s first and last name. Teen Camp supplies include a sack lunch, snack, water bottle, swimsuit, towel, backpack, travel hand sanitizer, spray sunscreen, box of markers, box of crayons, glue sticks, scissors, and a pencil box, with all supplies labeled with the camper’s first and last name. Before and after care are offered for campers who are registered for one of the camp programs and need care outside regular camp hours, and children in before and after care take part in loosely structured activities under the supervision of camp staff.
