Pekin Park District Day Camps include activities such as crafts and outside fun, and campers have access to hiking and biking trails, an adaptive playground, golf, dog parks, and various classes and programs. The camps offer Day Camp Adventures throughout the school year for school-aged children and a Day Camp in the summer that offers a camp experience without spending the week away from home. Every day is different and activities keep students engaged.
• Price: Residents could rent the Pekin Park Pavilion for $5 with an added fee of $1 for use of a piano (historical pricing).
Pekin Park District was officially established on December 14, 1902. The Pekin Park Pavilion officially opened for public use and rentals on July 2, 1905, and is described as a 119-year-old Mineral Springs Park Pavilion relative to the page’s timeframe. In the last 15 years, the community-driven Pekin Park Foundation has been established to help the Pekin Park District leverage resources and financially assist in meeting park wants and needs. The district operates one of the largest park systems in the state of Illinois and includes features such as a brand-new adaptive playground, a skate park, a large Sports Complex, numerous baseball, football, and soccer fields, two golf courses, and dog parks, as well as a large viewing area, fishing piers, decorative lanterns, and two fountains added to the Lagoon to help aerate it. A large pergola added in 2011 is popular for weddings and other community events, and the Mineral Springs Park Pavilion is described as an iconic community symbol. In 2020, an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development Grant (OSLAD) was granted to the district. Pekin Park District has partnered with the Fondulac Park District and operates the Illinois River Valley Special Recreation Association. The leadership team includes Cameron Bettin, Executive Director, and Chip Hill, Business Operations Manager / Assistant Board Secretary.
