About

Peotone Biddy Basketball includes basketball practices and games that use skills based instructional drills, scrimmages, and coaching. The program also includes opportunities related to working the concession stand and helping to clean up after the games. All 2nd graders in the program follow an instructional format that combines drills and scrimmages.

• Ages: 7–13 years old
• Schedule: All 2nd graders practice together on Friday nights from 6–7:15pm.
• Price: Biddy Basketball has a $25 concession stand fee that is added to the cost of the family registration.

Biddy basketball is open to all children that reside in the Peotone School District in grades 2nd–8th, with the exception of 7th and 8th grade boys that are on the junior high basketball team. All teams are co-ed and divided into three groups: College for 3rd and 4th graders, Pro for 5th and 6th graders, and International for 7th and 8th graders. For 2nd grade only, all players follow a new instructional program and all 2nd graders practice together on Friday nights from 6–7:15pm instead of Saturday morning games. In the 2nd grade program, the first 45 minutes are devoted to skills based instructional drills and the last 30 minutes are scrimmages, which parents are encouraged to attend. Teams for the 2nd grade scrimmages are randomly selected by the instructors each week, all 2nd grade players have the same jersey color and wear pinnies, instructors are on the court for teaching and refereeing, and there is no score keeping for the 2nd grade program. This is a recreational program and all children are required to play during the games.

The mission of Peotone Biddy Basketball is to encourage the development of youth by providing opportunities for athletic and personal growth, to offer a safe, healthy, positive environment for youth to demonstrate sportsmanship and the development of life skills, and to give youth players the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of basketball. Referees and scorekeepers are often former Biddy players and current high school students. Community Service Hours are available for concession stand or related volunteering, and volunteers must provide their own form for signature. The program allows families to earn the $25 concession stand fee back by working the concession stand for 1 hour, helping to clean up after the games, or coaching, and volunteer concession stand opportunities are on a first come, first serve basis. Concession stand volunteers must be 16 or older. Community Service Hours are available, and participants must provide their own form for signature.
