About

Peotone Biddy Basketball includes basketball practices and games that use skills based instructional drills, scrimmages, and coaching. All 2nd graders in the program follow an instructional format that combines drills and scrimmages instead of Saturday morning games.

• Ages: 7–14 years old
• Schedule: All 2nd graders practice together on Friday nights from 6–7:15pm.
• Price: Biddy Basketball has a $25 concession stand fee that is added to the cost of the family registration.

Biddy basketball is open to all children that reside in the Peotone School District in grades 2nd–8th, except 7th and 8th grade boys that are on the junior high basketball team. All teams are co-ed and divided into three groups: College for 3rd and 4th graders, Pro for 5th and 6th graders, and International for 7th and 8th graders. For 2nd grade only, all players practice together on Friday nights from 6–7:15pm, with the first 45 minutes devoted to skills based instructional drills and the last 30 minutes to scrimmages that parents are encouraged to attend. Teams for the 2nd grade scrimmages are randomly selected by the instructors each week, and all 2nd grade players have the same jersey color and wear pinnies. Instructors are on the court for teaching and refereeing during 2nd grade sessions, and there is no score keeping for the 2nd grade program. This is a recreational program, and it is required that all children must play during the games.

The program uses referees and scorekeepers who are often former Biddy players and current high school students. The leadership team includes board members John Cann; Hanna and Taylor Komater, reachable at (815) 482-8504; Jen Moe, reachable at (815) 545-7685; Anne Soucie at [email protected]; and Michelle Batterman. The mission statement for Biddy basketball is that it encourages the development of youth by providing opportunities for athletic and personal growth, seeks to provide a safe, healthy, positive environment for youth to demonstrate sportsmanship and the development of life skills, and wishes to provide youth players the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of basketball.

The program states that the goal is to build a sense of community as well as to further the development of the players' skills and sportsmanship, and community service hours are available if participants provide their own form for signature. Families can earn the $25 concession stand fee back by working the concession stand for 1 hour, helping to clean up after the games, or coaching, and volunteer concession stand opportunities are on a first come, first serve basis. Concession stand volunteers must be 16 or older. Registration is now closed for the 2025–2026 season. Payments and registration must be received no later than November 1st, and without payment a child will be unable to participate. Checks should be payable to Peotone Biddy Basketball and either mailed or delivered to a board member, and families are asked to include their child or children’s names and grades with the payment.
