About

Kaleidoscope Dance Camps & Classes offers summer camps, dance classes, dance intensives, and summer acro. Dancers can take classes in ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, contemporary, lyrical, and musical theater.

• Ages: 0–18 years old
• Schedule: Two convenient 5-week sessions

Kaleidoscope Dance offers daily and weekly camp options, over 100 classes a week, and small class and camp sizes. The program includes an EXPLORE path for dancers of all ages and abilities and an EVOLVE path for dedicated, advanced dancers, with specific programs geared towards all levels from beginner to pre-professional. It is a non-competitive environment where self-esteem and confidence are the main focus, and each dancer receives the same amount of attention and instruction, no matter the level. Dancers participate in a professional year-end performance at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, and each dancer receives a link to view and download the performance recorded by a professional company; the performance is divided into four shows by age groups to allow for shorter shows. Families have access to a free trial class, convenient drop-off and pick-up, and a family friendly and social environment.

Kaleidoscope Dance has been one of Skokie’s leading dance studios for aspiring professionals and kids who just want to have fun for over 15 years and is a top Chicagoland dance studio located at the crossroads of the Skokie and Evanston communities. The studios are described as beautiful and modern, with full-length mirrors and professional sprung-wood flooring, which helps to mitigate the risk of injury. The space includes closed-circuit televisions and two-way mirrors that allow parents to observe without disrupting class.

The program’s mission states that Kaleidoscope Dance believes in promoting positive self-esteem while instilling a love and appreciation for dance and movement, with the expectation that each dancer reaches their potential and receives individual and personal attention, no matter the level. The leadership team includes Heather Jackson (Owner and Kaleidoscope Dance Ensemble Artistic Director), April Torneby (Kaleidoscope Dance Ensemble Assistant Artistic Director), and Gabriela Ortiz (Kaleidoscope Krew Artistic Director). Instructors are described as qualified and trained, with at minimum bachelor degrees in dance and professional dance training; Heather Jackson holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Performance degree in Dance & Musical Theatre from Millikin University, April Torneby holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance with a focus on choreography from Cornish College of the Arts, and Gabriela Ortiz holds a double major in Dance and Performing Arts Management from Columbia College Chicago.

Parent feedback includes a testimonial from Michelle H., who reports that her daughter started with ballet and hip-hop at age five and continues to dance, noting that teachers make the girls feel special while instilling team spirit and that her daughter is developing close friendships in ensemble. Another parent, Kathryn W., describes the studio schedule as following the school year with one consistent class time from September to May, and states that the teachers are wonderful and that her daughter has learned a lot.
