Club SciKidz was established in 1997, and beginning in 2001, Camp Young Scientist was created to accommodate children in grades 1–2. Since 1997, more than 100,000 children have attended one or more of Club SciKidz' science day camps or school programs. The program’s unique science programs are designed to meet the needs of children ages 4–15, and there are now 70 locations, and counting, offering projects and experiments for kids in grades PK–7th. Each summer, Club SciKidz offers over 70+ themed STEM summer camps for grades PK–8th, and it now offers 42 different themed science camps and 30 weeks of inquiry-based after-school science club experiences.
The mission of Club SciKidz is based on the principle that parents want to provide their children with exciting, challenging, and life impacting academic enrichment experiences. The company states that it is committed to demonstrating how science works in the real world by providing activities in veterinary medicine, Mini Medical School, drones, 3D printing, virtual reality Pokémon, America Doll, Wizarding World, Lego robotics, forensics, video game creation, food science, paleontology, engineering, chemistry and biology, astronomy, oceanography, emergency medicine, and special effects. Carefully researched science lessons are used to engage students in observation, measurement, identification of properties, and experimentation involving life, earth, and physical science concepts, and each unit is rigorously researched by science educators with the help of teachers and children.
Owners Bob and Sue Hagan are described as having created one of America's finest summer science and technology camps. Bob and Sue have a combined 30 plus years of teaching experience and both hold a Master’s Degree in Education. The program states that it looks for certified teachers, college students, and outstanding high school seniors to work at its summer camps in West Chicago and Naperville.
Parent comments about Club SciKidz include statements that the staff are “kind” and “caring,” that teenagers and young adults facilitating activities were “GREAT,” and that children “loved the variety of activities, the fun experiments, and the interaction with the other kids and counselors.” Other parents reported that it was their children’s “favorite camp of the summer,” that it was their “favorite” among five different camps attended, and that they experienced a “safe environment, fun activities, great hours.” Additional feedback describes the camp as having “lots of unique activities, organized and well run,” and one parent said they “really loved getting to know the teachers and the director” and that “everyone was incredibly thoughtful and caring.”
