This approach is described as allowing students to experience success as each drill is mastered, improving self-awareness and resiliency while supporting learning in a safe and educational environment. The program emphasizes strength, flexibility, technique, coordination, stamina, balance, increased confidence, and enhanced physical fitness, and it incorporates a conditioning and fitness program endorsed by USA Gymnastics. The program states that it aims to offer classes that suit different family schedules.

American Academy of Gymnastics began as a small gym in Des Plaines in 1973 and later relocated to Wheeling in 1985. It has offered a facility for over 30 years where athleticism and education are prioritized, and the space is intentionally described as functional for athletes of different backgrounds and levels. The facility has over 18,000 square feet and includes 3 trampolines, 3 foam pits, 5 sets of uneven bars, and every piece of men’s and women’s Olympic gymnastics apparatus equipment. There are enclosed and maintained viewing areas on the first and second floors for friends and family, along with free Wi‑Fi and a stocked vending machine.

American Academy of Gymnastics is responsible for the development of several international gymnasts, including 1992 U.S. Olympian Chris Waller. The academy reports that its graduates have cumulatively earned over $4 million in college scholarships. The Stevenson High School girls’ team trains in-house at AAG and has won four straight Illinois High School state championships, and AAG is listed as a sponsor and partner with Athletico.
