About
Baker Summer Discovery Camp offers arts and crafts, swimming, outdoor games and sports, team time, and local field trips around Baker and into Chicago. Campers take part in weekly swimming, art classes, and movement classes, along with a walking trip to nearby Lighthouse Beach for 1st–6th graders and fun swim plus a water day out on the Baker Field for PreK and Kindergarteners.
• Ages: 3–12 years old
• Schedule: Camp day runs 8:30 a.m.–3:15 p.m., with sessions offered from June 8 through August 7 and optional Morning Care (7:30–8:15 a.m.) and After Care (3:15–5:00 p.m.)
Founded in 1918, Baker has been nationally recognized for its practice of progressive education and was the lab school for the teacher college at National Louis University for 87 years before becoming independent in 2005. Baker Summer Discovery Camp is part of Baker Demonstration School, which states that it champions an exemplary progressive education that cultivates an intrinsic motivation to learn, values differences, nurtures the whole person, and encourages courageous choices. The camp includes a Counselors-in-Training option for 7th–9th graders, who take on leadership roles with younger campers. Full Summer and Multi-Sibling Discounts are available and are applied by camp administrative staff after registration, and a waitlist is created once all spots have been filled.
