About
Peet Equestrian offers horse training, lessons, clinics, and Working Equitation, along with halter work, ground work, lungeing, bitting, long-lining, driving, and saddle work. Riders and horses can work in dressage, hunt seat, saddle seat, western riding, trail riding, and showing at levels ranging from county fairs to national Andalusian, Dressage, and Working Equitation shows. The program also provides show preparation, assistance with horse sales and purchases, and answers to horse-related questions for owners and riders.
Peet Equestrian is led by Howard and Erica Peet, who bring 30 years of horsemanship knowledge and a strong foundation based on horsemanship from many disciplines. Their training program uses halter work as a foundation, including a halter program learned in part from an accomplished horseman in Spain named Nourddine, and focuses on developing horse confidence, willingness, and happiness in their work. They specialize in Andalusians while welcoming all breeds, and have experience training many breeds including Andalusians, Paints, Mustangs, Minis, Foxtrotters, Arabians, and a Fjord.
Howard had been in the horse training business for a number of years before he and Erica met, learning from horsemen including Bruce Howard, Danny Burgren, Joe Polo, Keith Kritchy, and Bill Matton, and attending numerous seminars and clinics to become a well-rounded show trainer. He trained and competed horses for a number of Andalusian and Arabian farms for a number of years. Erica became Howard's apprentice and later began the journey to become a Working Equitation judge; she is currently a licensed Working Equitation “R” judge.
The path to the creation of Peet Equestrian started in 2002, and in 2003 Howard began showing again with Andalusians. Howard and Erica became a couple in 2005, officially started Peet Equestrian in 2010, and marked Peet Equestrian’s 10-year anniversary in 2020. Over the last 15 years they have worked with horses and owners from all over the country, and they have earned national titles while watching their amateur and youth riders earn titles as well.
Peet Equestrian’s lesson programs emphasize owner education as much as horse education, and Working Equitation is a big part of their program. They have a full set of Working Equitation obstacles, host and present Working Equitation clinics, and teach at Cross National Cup events. They attend as many Andalusian shows as they can, including Regional, National, IALHA, and ANCCE shows, and also compete at Dressage and Working Equitation shows. Their stated goal is to help riders and owners on their path to equine success, with a training motto of relying on hard work and dedication to lead to success and counting on teamwork when reaching for victory.
