Woodstock Challenger Learning Center Missions and Virtual Programs offers missions at the Challenger Center, space-themed virtual experiences, and virtual missions that use space simulation and role-playing. Students take part in hands-on learning as they move through different parts of the mission experience, including working together in a variety of roles to solve problems during the space simulation.
During on-site missions, students move through the Transport Room, Mission Control, the Briefing Room, the Spacecraft, and the STEM Lab. In the Transport Room, students get a hands-on sight and sound experience as they prepare to blast into space. In Mission Control, the crew analyzes data to ensure the safety of the crew in space. In the Briefing Room, students participate in questions and answers as part of the mission briefing. On the spacecraft, students collect data and work together in different roles to solve problems for a safe and successful mission. Work in the STEM Lab supports and enhances what students learn during the hands-on parts of the mission experience.
Space-themed virtual experiences are delivered to students in real time by Challenger Learning Center Flight Directors, and virtual missions can be experienced from the classroom. The program offers three mission options: Expedition Mars, Lunar Quest, and Operation Comet. The Challenger Learning Center’s mission is to inspire the next generation by using space simulation and role-playing to help students learn and apply STEM concepts through hands-on experiences, with the goal of helping students develop skills for the future and inspiring them to pursue careers in STEM fields. Woodstock Challenger Learning Center is connected with Woodstock District 200.
