Bloomington Creative Glass Center Youth Programs are part of a nonprofit organization committed to bringing affordable, high quality education about glass to the people of southern Indiana and are open to any and all who have an interest in glass, regardless of age or experience. The organization was officially founded in 2011, became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational center, and began offering limited glassblowing and glass fusing classes to the public and its first summer camp in 2019. During the pandemic in 2020, it began offering weekly art projects and take-home kits, and in 2022 it expanded glass education offerings with the Venice Reimagined event, which features glassblowing, period music, and rapier sword fighting. The founder is Abby Gitlitz.
Bloomington Creative Glass Center hosts public events that youth and families can attend, including the Great Glass Pumpkin Patch, Fusing Fests, the 12 Days of Holiday Art, and Venice Reimagined, and it offers an apprenticeship program that teaches people about glassblowing in exchange for creating pumpkins sold at the patch. It also provides a semester-long kiln working class to Ivy Tech students and is described as a community that offers connection through creativity. One testimonial describes it as one of the many artistic organizations in Bloomington and an asset to the community, and notes that founder Abby Gitlitz is a creative powerhouse as well as a passionate and patient teacher.
