About

FIRST LEGO League gives kids hands-on STEM experiences that include coding, engineering, research, and a robot game. The program mission states that FIRST LEGO League sparks curiosity and confidence in young minds through hands-on STEM experiences. Students take on themed challenges using activities such as coding, engineering, and research, and they build and program robots for the robot game.

• Ages: 5–16 years old

FIRST LEGO League is described as global STEM for young minds and guides youth through STEM learning and exploration at an early age. It features age-appropriate divisions that build upon each other, with a focus on playful discovery and real-world problem-solving through coding, engineering, and research. The FIRST LEGO League Explore division is for ages 6–10, where teams focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO Education SPIKE. The FIRST LEGO League Challenge division is for ages 9–16, where teams engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering, build and program a LEGO Education SPIKE Prime robot that navigates the missions of a robot game, and participate in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem. Students around the world come together to take on themed challenges and connect at high-energy local and global events that celebrate creativity, collaboration, and innovation.
