First Tee – Indiana – Columbus offers golf instruction combined with First Tee life skills lessons. The program includes activities focused on golf fundamentals, building life skills, and fostering character development.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Multi-day class blocks during February–May with weekday and Saturday options, plus June–July sessions offered in 2–3 day blocks and week-long summer sessions
First Tee – Indiana – Columbus is part of First Tee, a youth development organization that integrates the game of golf with a life skills curriculum to create active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience. At First Tee – Indiana, the program integrates golf with character-building to create learning experiences that help kids and teens uncover inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience. In 2016, First Tee – Indiana in Columbus established a partnership with the Columbus Parks Department, and it partners with Harrison Lake Country Club and Otter Creek Golf Course. First Tee – Indiana operates under the Indiana Golf Foundation, which has over 20 years of experience providing golf programs to Indiana youth and has awarded over $600,000 in scholarships since 1994. The Indiana Golf Foundation has established itself as a national leader in junior golf and hosts a junior tour offering 70 competitive events and reaching over 1,200 kids annually.
Classes at Harrison Lake are led by Nodjya Cook, PGA, and classes at Rocky Ford Golf Course are led by PGA Professional and Level 1 Coach, Keith VanDeventer. First Tee – Indiana in Columbus has a partnership with the Columbus Parks Department that provides a home base at Rocky Ford Par 3 Golf Course, and First Tee participants receive complimentary Youth on Course membership. First Tee programs in Indiana are also offered through 26 Community Center program partners, 82 golf courses, and the First Tee School Program, which is incorporated into more than 345 elementary schools’ physical education classes.
