Conner Prairie’s Early Learning Programs are part of an organization whose mission is to inspire curiosity and foster learning by providing engaging and individualized experiences for everyone. Conner Prairie is Indiana's first Smithsonian affiliate and has held this affiliation since 2008. The organization has earned the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid's GuideStar. Its recognition and awards include the 2026 Best New Experience for Promised Land as Proving Ground from the Indiana Tourism Association and the 2025 PRSA Hoosier Chapter Award of Honor for the Headless Horseman Campaign. Conner Prairie received reaccreditation from the American Alliance of Museums in 2023 and the Run it Back award from Dream Alive in 2022. In 2022, Midwest Living named it Best Historical Site in its Best of the Midwest list. Reader's Digest listed it among the Top 25 Corn Mazes at #6 in 2021. In 2020, the Indianapolis Star Official Community Choice Awards recognized it as the Best Historical Site and Best Summer Camp. In 2019, the Fishers City Council presented the Life Without Limits Award for support of DEAI, and CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions named it a 2019 Partner Award recipient. In 2018, it was named a Site of Conscience by the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience. The reimagined William Conner House received the 2017 American Alliance of Museums Excellence in Exhibition award. In 2015, Conner Prairie received a $7.5 million Lilly Endowment Grant for organizational sustainability. In 2013, it was named one of six Magnetic Museums in the country in the book “Magnetic: The Art and Science of Engagement” and recognized as one of the top five most visited outdoor museums in the United States. In 2012, it was awarded a $2.3 million National Science Foundation grant. In 2010, it received the National Medal from the Institute for Museum and Library Services. Conner Prairie became Indiana’s first Smithsonian affiliate in 2008.
