Scuba participants work directly with certified PADI scuba instructor Paul Burris with Sonny Side of Scuba, and as PADI Open Water Divers they are described as certified entry-level divers able to rent dive gear, get air fills, and dive anywhere in the world in conditions that are better or similar to those in which they trained. To enroll in scuba, participants must be 10 years or older, in good physical health with a diving medical form completed before the first pool session, and able to swim 200 yards in a bathing suit or 300 yards with mask, fins, and snorkel.

Freedom Springs states that swimming lessons are a life skill and an investment in safety, and that water aerobics, aqua walking, and lap swimming are low-impact ways to achieve fitness and build better health. The program notes that it offers swimming lessons and aquatic programs for all ages and skill levels. Paul Burris is identified as a certified PADI scuba instructor with Sonny Side of Scuba.
