School-Age Youth Camps and Programs offers before-school and after-school recreation programs that include homework time and games, as well as a range of summer day camps and sports camps. Children can take part in Insect Adventurers, Super Scientists, and Amazing Artists! Summer Day Camps, where they create insect-inspired art, learn about ladybugs, butterflies, and bees, build bug habitats, explore how pollinators help, try STEM challenges, explore creatures, create slime, conduct experiments, and practice painting, drawing, sculpting, and mixed media. The program also offers Flag Football camp, Summer Basketball Skills Camp, Fishing Camp, Beginner Pickleball Camp, Tiny T-Ball, Tiny Tumbling, and Soccer Skills Camps that focus on specific sport skills such as passing, catching, dribbling, shooting, running, flag pulling, fielding, throwing, and beginning tumbling moves.
• Ages: 2–12 years old
• Schedule: Before-school care runs on Greenwood Community School Corporation school days from 6:30 a.m. until the start of the school day, and after-school care runs on school days from the end of the school day until 6 p.m.; summer camps and sports camps are offered on specific dates in June and July with sessions generally lasting between single-day events and four-day camps.
• Price: Before-school care is $90 per month and after-school care is $135 per month with a $25 registration fee due at registration; individual camp fees range from $25 to $65 depending on the camp.
Before- and after-school recreation programs are fully supervised for children in kindergarten through grade five, and bus service is available for VO Isom, Southwest, Northeast, and Westwood elementary schools. Insect Adventurers, Super Scientists, and Amazing Artists! Summer Day Camps note that science and art activities can get messy and suggest sending an apron or smock, and children can bring a water bottle and snack each day with a request for no peanuts due to allergies. The afternoon before- and after-school care includes a daily snack, and day camp snack notes also specify that children may bring their own snack and water bottle.
Flag Football is described as a non-contact sport that emphasizes strategy, skill, and communication, and is taught by Dr. Paul S. Hafen, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and human performance scientist. Summer Basketball Skills Camp is led by Kevin Owens, owner of KO Basketball Elite, and its fee includes a camp t-shirt if registered by May 25. Beginner Pickleball Camp is described as an introduction to what is called the country’s fastest growing sport and is instructed by professional pickleball referee Bob Swisshelm. Tiny T-Ball is described as the perfect first sports experience for a youngster with some parent participation involved, and Tiny Tumbling is described as the perfect first exposure to gymnastics for a youngster with some parent participation involved.
