About

BU Soccer Camp offers soccer along with swimming, games, movies, a talent show, and trivia games. On various days, younger campers have the option of a 40-minute swim at the HRC indoor pool, where the pool depth is 3 feet, 6 inches. Campers choosing to swim need a swimsuit, towel, and a change of shoes for the walk to the pool.

• Ages: 5–14 years old
• Schedule: Camp hours are 9:00am–3:00pm Monday–Thursday and 9:00am–12:00pm Friday, with supervision for early drop-off starting at 8:00am and After-Care offered until 6:00pm Monday–Friday.
• Price: The cost of After-Care per day is $20, with additional siblings at $10 per day, and a lunch pass for the camp week available for $20.

At camp check-in on Monday morning, if necessary, parents make the athletic trainer aware of any medicine or medical conditions their camper may have. A certified camp athletic trainer is present during all camp sessions. Campers are grouped by age, ability, and physical maturity, with re-grouping according to skill level after evaluation. Elite sessions are offered for 8–14 year old soccer players who play the majority of the year and participate on competitive teams. The camp uses a Camp Snack Card so campers can buy drinks and snacks at the concession stand without carrying cash. Camp will not be canceled due to bad weather; in severe weather campers are moved indoors for movies, taped soccer games, a talent show, trivia games, and similar activities. This camp is open to any and all entrants, limited only by number and age, grade level, and/or gender.

Elite campers spend the morning portion of camp training with the Butler University coaching staff and other top U.S. Soccer licensed coaches from around the country. Youth campers are coached by men’s and women’s college players from Butler University and other universities across the country. The staff is described as unmatched in the quality of licensed and accredited staff, and the camp notes its coach-to-camper ratio and curriculum, as well as a focus on skill development, sportsmanship, and enjoyment of an active lifestyle. A team discount of $20 per player is available with a team sign-up when registering through Ric Huffman.

Tari St. John is Co-Owner of BU Soccer Camp and has completed her 18th season with the Bulldogs, serving as Co-Head Coach alongside Rob Alman for the past 10 years. In 2009, Coach St. John established a chapter of TOPSoccer, a community-based training program for athletes with intellectual, emotional, and/or physical disabilities. In 2021, the United Soccer Coaches Association honored her with the Disability Allies Award of Excellence. Her stated goals for the camp are “to provide each player with the tools to become a better player” and “to provide such a positive camp experience that each player’s love for the game grows even more.”

Parent testimonials describe campers enjoying BU Soccer Camp, learning soccer skills, and wanting to return, including comments about new skills, friendships, and memories, and specific feedback about encouragement with juggling challenges and positive experiences with the Butler staff.
