Choi Martial Arts Academy is the oldest Taekwondo school in the state of Indiana and has been in the same location on Indy’s Southside for over 55 years. Grandmaster Min H. Choi, a 9th Degree Black Belt, established the first Tae Kwon Do school in Indiana in 1971 and has been teaching Tae Kwon Do for over 55 years in Indianapolis and over 60 years total, including his time as an instructor in Korea and as a ROK soldier. Instruction at the academy is described as authentic Korean instruction. In the After School Martial Arts Program, students receive homework help in a classroom supervised by a real schoolteacher. In 1973, Grandmaster Choi was recognized by the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police for training police officers and physical education instructors for the Indiana Police Department Training Academy. Adults, children, and families are invited to try one lesson for free. Current students describe Tae Kwon Do at this academy as physically and mentally challenging, life changing, and a source of pleasure, focus, discipline, self-confidence, and personal growth, and they say it develops respect for others and self-discipline that carries over to other parts of life.
