About

IU Indianapolis Center for Young Children offers year-round daycare programs that include activities, music, art, and outdoor play. The program includes an Infant/Toddler program, a Wee-School program, a Multi-Age program, and a STEM Pre-K program. The facility includes two separate outside play areas that are used for outdoor play.

• Ages: 6 weeks–5 years old
• Schedule: Open Monday–Friday, 7:30 am–5:30 pm

The Infant/Toddler program serves children ages 6 weeks to 2 years old in small groups of children. The Wee-School program serves 2-year-olds with days that include activities, music, art, and outdoor play. The Multi-Age program serves children ages 3 to 5 years old, and children spend more than one year with the same teacher. The STEM Pre-K program serves children ages 4 to 5 and introduces science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts into the daily curriculum. The curriculum is designed to promote independence, self-esteem, confidence, and critical thinking skills, and is based on a philosophy that children learn through play, concrete experiences, and interaction with their environment, parents, peers, and teachers.

The IU Indianapolis Center for Young Children has a 30,000 square foot facility with 14 separate classrooms and two separate outside play areas with age appropriate equipment and activities. Every classroom has a door with direct access to the outside play areas. The Center is licensed to accept CCDF and On-My-Way Pre-K program vouchers. Experienced and professional teachers guide and encourage each child.

Since its founding in 1979, the mission of IU Indianapolis Center for Young Children has been to provide exceptional care and early childhood education to the IU Indianapolis and Indianapolis communities. Located on campus, the Center offers childcare and early childhood education for both the University and the broader Indianapolis communities.

Parent feedback includes comments that children are seen as belonging at the Center and that teachers and programming are credited with children’s growth. Other feedback notes that teachers support classroom structure for 2-year-olds and assist children with transitions such as changing schools and making new friends.
