Swim Lessons is a program offered through the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. For over 150 years, the YMCA has been fostering a love of the water in beginners and experienced swimmers alike. Each year, 1 million children learn to swim at the YMCA.
• Ages: 0–17 years old
The YMCA in Central Indiana traces its beginnings back to 1854. The mission of the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis is “Putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.” Today, the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis serves more than 200,000 people from many different backgrounds and provides over $8 million in scholarships, program subsidies, and underwritten programs in low-income communities.
The leadership team for the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis includes Gregg Hiland, President & Chief Executive Officer; Michael Farris, Jr., Senior Vice President, Chief Operations Officer; Justin Blackstone, Senior Vice President, Chief Development Officer; Randy Bordeau, Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer; Kirsten Eamon-Shine, Senior Vice President, Chief Brand Experience Officer; Colleen Horan, Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer; Jessica Moore, Senior Vice President, Chief Equity Advancement Officer; and Mallory Trusty, Senior Vice President, Chief People Officer.
Parents and members describe the YMCA as a place where “the people at the front desk always have a smile on their face… ALWAYS,” and as “a hidden gem in the Midtown/Downtown area.” Members also say that the staff and members “have built such a beautiful and supportive community” and that “the classes offered and the instructors are so motivating and challenging.”
