Korea Taekwondo Academy was founded in 1974 by Grandmaster Chul Koo Yoon and has provided continuous martial arts instruction in Indiana for more than fifty years, serving as a cornerstone of martial arts in the Indianapolis area. The school’s lineage begins with Grandmaster Yoon and continues through the influence of Grandmaster Garth Cooley, who played a major role in shaping the culture and teaching methods used there today. The program is led by a team of internationally certified Black Belt instructors, and is recognized as Central Indiana’s leader in Taekwondo for more than 50 years.

Korea Taekwondo Academy offers daily martial arts classes specifically designed for children, as well as a dedicated adult curriculum with multiple class times. The program also offers Gumdo classes for students interested in expanding their martial arts training, and its Hapkido program is open to all students with no experience needed. KTA is one of the only martial arts schools in the country that does not require year or multi-year contracts or memberships, and membership is month-to-month. The program remains a trusted and enduring part of the central Indiana community and states that it is committed to high-quality teaching and long-term community impact.

Testimonials from students and families describe learning self-defense, gaining self-confidence, and experiencing changes in patience, academics, other sports, and attitudes toward themselves and others. Families and students also describe the environment as uplifting, mention long-lasting friendships, and note that each class offers something to learn. One testimonial from a law enforcement professional states that many problems in society would be greatly reduced if more people trained in Taekwondo.
