BREC states that its mission is enriching lives through parks, recreation, and nature by delivering experiences that connect East Baton Rouge Parish residents to the outdoors, community, and the environment. Since 2004, BREC has worked with the community to imagine what its parks can be and commissioned a study from the Trust for Public Land to determine a dollar value for the impact of the park system on the local economy, resident health, and the environment. BREC operates 175 parks and more than 100 miles of hiking and biking trails across Baton Rouge and uses a Rapid Response Ticket Program for maintenance or safety concerns. Imagine Your Parks 3 is a 10-year strategic plan guiding BREC’s next 10 years. BREC is a three-time National Gold Medal Award-winning agency and refers to itself as a Gold Medal system.
BREC Summer Camps are described as inclusive camps that are a family tradition in East Baton Rouge Parish, with a diverse curriculum of activities and camps for children of all abilities, ages, and interests.
