About
Farmer, Forester, Chef! includes hands-on farm activities such as composting, planting, harvesting, preparing soil for crops, and working with livestock including pigs, sheep, and goats. Campers learn about animal life on a working CSA farm, prepare recipes in a fully equipped teaching kitchen and at an outdoor kitchen, and create farm-fresh, gluten-free recipes during daily cooking classes. The program also includes hiking the hills and trails at Noanet Woodlands, discovering woodland flora and fauna on extended hikes, learning beginner carpentry and beginner beekeeping skills, and lighting up an outdoor pizza oven.

Farmer, Forester, Chef! is a program for ages 6–11 that is inspired by The Trustees’ expertise in nature conservation, historic landscapes, regenerative agriculture, and farm-fresh culinary exploration, and a related program for ages 12–14 expands on all elements of the property to teach teens skills. Junior farmers learn where food comes from through hands-on farm activities, junior chefs use healthy, farm-fresh ingredients in a fully equipped teaching kitchen or unique outdoor kitchen, and junior forester days focus on exploring the natural world on nature trails and at Noanet Woodlands. The Teen Farm & Forest Stewards program is designed especially for young teens and involves working directly with Powisset’s rangers, stewards, chefs, livestock caretakers, and resident specialists. Week 8 is a special gluten-free week open to all and is especially mindful of campers with gluten allergies and their friends, and gluten and other food allergies can also be accommodated during other camp weeks. Campers still bring their own lunch to camp every day, and registration requires annual physical and immunization forms, emergency and pick up contact information, camper insurance policy and doctor contact, credit card or eCheck information, and a Membership number and expiration date if applicable.
Every day, campers enjoy farm-based activities that align with the program’s environmental education mission. Farmer, Forester, Chef! is supported by a team of talented, compassionate, and energetic educators. The program will comply with all regulations required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and is licensed by the Dover Board of Health. Powisset Farm is a property of The Trustees, a member-supported, nonprofit organization that protects and cares for 27,000 acres across Massachusetts, and Trustees Family Members receive free or discounted admission at 120+ special places, program discounts, and special event pre-sales all year round.
