About
Crossroads Youth Programs offers overnight summer camps and year-round leadership programs where participants take part in cabin life, learn to swim, ride a bike, tackle the high ropes course, explore the unique beauty of nature, and make new friends. The program also includes outdoor education, leadership development, community service, and college and career exploration. Eight weeks of residential, overnight summer programs are available through Crossroads Youth Programs.
• Ages: 7–18 years old
• Schedule: Eight weeks of residential, overnight summer programs
For 90 years, Crossroads has helped youth from Greater Boston and Brockton access overnight summer camp experiences and has been working with young people since 1936. Crossroads offers a 10-year continuum of year-round, experiential learning programs and engages over 1,000 young people each year in summer and school year programming focused on leadership, civic engagement, social-emotional learning, and postsecondary access and success. The Junior Leaders Program serves grades 3–7 with weekend and vacation week programs, and the C5 Leaders Program serves grades 8–12 over five carefully scaffolded years in which teens are described as character-driven, community-focused, challenge-ready, college/career-bound, and committed to a better future, known as the 5Cs. Crossroads reports that 100% of C5 graduates finish high school on time, 85% of recent graduates are enrolled in college or postsecondary programs, 78% of graduates are first-generation college students, and 96% of youth report an increase in physical activity, confidence, and friendships.
Crossroads states that it bridges the opportunity gap by providing access to high-quality programs and enrichment opportunities regardless of financial situation, with no barrier to access. Crossroads reports that 74% of its families are low income, donations cover 100% of program costs, and 750 young people are served annually. Crossroads describes itself as a recognized leader in Boston’s youth development sector and states that it empowers young people to unlock their potential and positively impact the world.
Parent and guardian feedback includes comments that a camper “went from being a shy little girl to being around a group of kids and staff who allowed her to express her true silly self,” that a camper “learned how to communicate effectively, and is able to work as a team with people who are different from himself,” and that “the environment is an extension of home and when my camper is there, I'm worry free.”
