About

Edge on Science Summer STEM Programs offers week-long, hands-on, project-based activities in applied science and engineering. Children take part in specific programs such as Mechanical Engineering Makerspace, BIOmedical Academy, Hexapod Robotics, Space Science, Super Science Sampler, Drone & Code, Summer Rocket Blast Off, Bridge Building, 3D Modeling & Design, Viking Adventures, Catapult Engineering, and Marine Science. Activities include 3D printing and design, Computer Aided Design (CAD), 3D modeling and printing, robotics, space science, bridge building, Viking adventures, and model rocket building and flying.

• Schedule: Week-long programs with daily sessions from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with extended drop-off available as early as 8:00 a.m. and pick-up as late as 6:00 p.m.
• Price: $50 off any 2nd week • $75 off any 3rd week • $100 off any 4th + week

Edge on Science offers 13 different interactive and hands-on STEM programs designed for young scientists and engineers. Children get to explore many branches of applied science and engineering through experimentation, demonstrations, games, and challenges. In some programs, participants learn how to code instructions for a drone and use simulation software to test different designs, motors, and flight conditions. In bridge-focused activities, they design, build, and load test a take-home model truss bridge and team-build four different bridges, including a suspension bridge. In engineering projects, children design and prototype a model electric car powered by a hydrogen fuel cell and 3D print their own designs. Viking-themed activities bring to life Viking sagas and include testing battle technique through experimentation, and outside, teams build two trebuchets. Marine-focused programs include diving into marine ecology at the Ocean Alliance, a world-renowned whale conservation center.

Edge on Science states that its programs are hands-on and are designed to ignite a passion for science and engineering in young minds, with a back-to-basics, project-based learning approach. The instructors are engineers, scientists and/or scholars, and their aim is to fuel each child’s curiosity for applied science. The program is led by John Aviste, Founder of Edge on Science, and has been in operation from 2013 to 2025 as Edge on Science, LLC. Edge on Science has been recognized as a BostonParents Top 5 in STEM. One parent described Catapult Engineering as “non-stop, hands-on physics fun with a medieval flair.”
