Edge on Science Summer STEM Programs includes SpaceScience, 3D Modeling & Design, Drone & Code, Mechanical Engineering Makerspace, Marine Science, Super Science Sampler, Hexapod Robotics, Viking Adventures, BIOmedical Academy, Summer Rocket Blast Off, Bridge Building, and Catapult Engineering. Activities include exploring the solar system and beyond, designing and prototyping a model electric car, coding instructions for a drone, building model hydraulic machines, assembling a six-legged walker, and designing, building, testing, and flying a model rocket.

Programs

• SpaceScience — Week of exploration beginning with the solar system, then the galaxy and beyond.
• 3D Modeling & Design — Children design and prototype a model electric car.
• Drone & Code — Learn how to code instructions for a drone and deal with basic laws of motion.
• Mechanical Engineering Makerspace — Learn how a hydraulic system is used to transmit power and build model hydraulic machines.
• Marine Science — Dive into marine ecology at the Ocean Alliance, a whale conservation center.
• Super Science Sampler — Explore many branches of applied science and engineering through experimentation, demonstrations, games, and challenges.
• Hexapod Robotics — Assemble a six-legged walker and create an app to control it.
• Viking Adventures — Bring to life the Viking sagas and test battle technique through experimentation.
• BIOmedical Academy — Pathways to careers in medicine, biotech, and nanotechnology.
• Summer Rocket Blast Off — Design, build, test, and fly your own model rocket using simulation software.
• Bridge Building — Design, build, and load test a take-home model truss bridge; team-build four different bridges, including a suspension.
• Catapult Engineering — Hands-on physics fun with a medieval flair; teams build two trebuchets.

• General schedule: Daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; extended drop-off as early as 8:00 a.m. or pick-up as late as 6:00 p.m.

About the provider

The program has been offered since 2013. It is led by Founder & Director John Aviste, P.Eng. Programs are led by experienced instructors who are engineers, scientists and/or scholars. The mission is to provide a safe, educational, and curiously fun experience creating, building, and testing; kids do the doing and discover what they are capable of. Custom programs are offered for schools, libraries, museums, youth groups, and community groups, and private week-long programs are also offered for schools and youth groups such as Girl Scouts.

Narrow grade spans for a targeted, age-appropriate experience. Choose your week subject to availability. Save with two or more weeks: $50 off any 2nd week, $75 off any 3rd week, and $100 off any 4th+ week.
