About

The CORSE Foundation Programs are offered by The CORSE Foundation (Community of Resources for Special Education), which was established by a group of parents and educators to raise funds for programming, training, and resources for children with special needs. Programs are provided within a blended framework that includes integrated and specialized social, academic, recreation, therapeutic, and work-skills development activities. These programs are staffed through customized staffing ratios and special education expertise so children with and without special needs can participate together.

• Ages: 3–18 years old

The CORSE Foundation’s mission is to provide high quality and affordable programming, training, and resources that benefit children with special needs ages 3–22, along with their families and educators throughout South Shore Massachusetts. CORSE has designed an innovative model that combines integrated and specialized social, academic, recreation, therapeutic, and work-skills development programs. CORSE supplements 75% of all programming costs, is run entirely by unpaid volunteers, and reports administrative overhead of 4.9%.

Programs are staffed with customized staffing ratios and special education expertise so that all children, those with and without special needs, can participate together within their community. One parent testimonial reports that a child learned how to interact and resolve conflict with peers, began initiating and maintaining conversations with other children, and started to speak up in conflict situations after participating in a program.

The CORSE Foundation has received multiple recognitions, including the 2020 March WBZ Cares Featured Charity, the 2016 South Shore Conservatory Community Partnership Award, the 2016 Scituate Recreation Community Spirit Award, the 2016 FOX25 Hometown Team Award, the 2015 Myra Kraft Community MVP Award from the New England Patriots, and the 2011 Massachusetts Recreation and Park Association Program Outreach Award. Additional honors include being the primary speaker at the first Flutie Foundation Partner Summit in 2014, the 2008 Massachusetts Community Partnership Award from the Federation for Children with Special Needs, and its co-founders being named 2009 Scituate Citizens of the Year. GuideStar has designated CORSE a platinum-level organization.
