Discovery Camps and Youth Programs are part of the Maria Mitchell Association’s award-winning programs. The programs connect with other Maria Mitchell Association offerings such as the Science Speaker Series, the Nantucket Harbor Monitoring Project, the Nantucket STEAM Festival, and The Nature of Nantucket podcast.

For over a century, the Maria Mitchell Association has educated and inspired the next generation of scientists and environmental stewards. Its mission is to create opportunities for all to develop a life-long passion for science through education, research, and first-hand exploration of the sky, land, and sea of Nantucket Island. The Star Report is written and presented by Dr. Geoffrey Clayton PH.D., Interim Astronomy Director, and Dr. Rich Blundell is an ecologist and philosopher.
The Nantucket Harbor Monitoring Project is a collaboration led by the Maria Mitchell Association with several partners, including the Remain Nantucket Fund at the Community Foundation for Nantucket, Great Harbor Yacht Club Foundation, Osceola Foundation, Sociable Weaver Foundation, and the Town of Nantucket’s Harbormaster. The Town of Nantucket Natural Resources Department, Town of Nantucket Sewer, and Nantucket Land and Water Council have been part of this project since January, and the project collects and publishes continuous data on multiple seawater parameters to create the “Mitchell Curve,” a long-term, permanent record of ocean acidification in Nantucket Harbor. The 2026 Nantucket STEAM Festival is a free community event centered around STEAM. The Nature of Nantucket is a thought-provoking podcast that airs on 97.7 ACKFM every Sunday at 7:20AM and is available via Apple or Spotify. MMA 2026 Discovery Camp Registration for Year-Round Family Members begins January 12 and for all members at or above Family levels begins January 14, 2026.
