About
Play Incubation Collective Youth Programs offers activities that include free works-in-progress arts salons, writers' circles, community conversations, incubation residencies, development workshops, and the PIPS (Plays In Progress Series). The program also includes summer programs for youth that connect young artists with these theater-making processes.
Play Incubation Collective’s mission is to serve as a local launchpad for new theatrical work that nourishes the community and fosters civic dialogue. Its stated goals are to provide developmental opportunities for theater that sparks community conversation, to build a collaborative network of local multidisciplinary artists and supporters, and to foster creativity, teamwork, and a celebration of the artistic process for youth artists. This work is supported by The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, the Northampton Arts Council, individual community donors, and the Workroom Cooperative, a pilot program of A.P.E. The program describes itself as changing the landscape of new play development by eliminating traditional gatekeepers and centering the playwright’s vision with support from a collective of multidisciplinary theater makers. It focuses on process-driven work for artists in the Connecticut River Valley, produces locally sourced theater in direct conversation with the surrounding community, and offers multiple access points for artists of all ages to get involved.
