South Shore YMCA Camp Burgess & Hayward Adventure Trips offers co-ed summer overnight trips where participants take part in activities such as surfing, fishing, shellfishing, marine ecology workshops, sunset pier fishing, beach walks, camp tours, pontoon rides, zipline, rock climbing, archery, scavenger hunts, games, campfires, and s’mores. Some trips focus on specific themes, including options that range from surfing to fishing to chilling on Cape Cod. A new Hooked on the Cape trip in Summer 2025 offers fishing across Cape Cod’s coastal and inland waters.
• Ages: 12–16 years old
• Schedule: 1- and 2-week overnight sessions during the summer months, with sessions running Sunday–Friday
• Price: The cost of a one-week session is $1,035. The cost of a two-week session is $2,070.
Adventure Trips groups are small, with each trip including two trip leaders and 6–12 participants, and some gear, transportation, and meals are provided. Trips are led by mature, experienced, and highly trained staff who lead with a focus on safety, fun, and community. Campers can link Adventure Trips sessions together and stay through the weekend by registering for the Mini-Adventure Weekend, and most participants choose to stay for multiple sessions. Friend requests are allowed, with one mutual request per camper. Established in 1928, South Shore YMCA Camp Burgess & Hayward have been leaders in Massachusetts camping for over 90 years, and their stated mission is: “Learning, Growing, Belonging. Developing conscientious citizens by instilling wonder, encouraging stewardship, and cultivating community.” South Shore YMCA Camp Burgess & Hayward depends on the generosity of the community to support its Annual Campaign and invites alumni, donors, community members, and parents of current campers to get involved through committee service or hosting Camp Connections events.
