Students are placed based on age, experience, training, skill, and maturity levels, and the studio notes that it recognizes and is sensitive to the varied needs of its student population. Classes are held in a small class size setting, and students may take dance while also being involved in activities such as sports, music, or martial arts.
The Competitive Dance program requires an audition with a panel of professional judges and includes 1 to 2 competitions per year. The Pre-Professional Dance program is for dancers pursuing dance college education and/or a professional dance career, with an extensive curriculum and mentoring by the Director and select staff. Students in the Performance Group program perform for varied audiences in the community, including parades, senior centers, sporting events, and nursing homes, and students may also do other community outreach performances in the MetroWest area. Dancers have chances to perform in both winter and spring performances and to audition with professional local dance companies for winter or spring ballet performances.
The Academy of Dance Expressions opened in Westboro in 1995 and has been a well established dance academy for over 25 years, celebrating its 31st year. The program describes its philosophy as stressing dance technique in a stress free dance environment and teaching in a caring and nurturing way, and it refers to everyone as part of the dance family whether they are in competitions or are recreational dancers. Dance Expressions states that it is “The ultimate destination where Metrowest learns to dance.”
Dance Expressions has highly qualified professional instructors, including professional dance instructors who are educators. The Founder and Director, Laurene Aldorisio (referred to as Miss Laurene), is described as a talented dance educator and has been teaching dance for over 20 years. The mission of Dance Expressions is to inspire and nurture dancers to reach their fullest potential, to provide a high level of dance training to students of all levels in a stress free dance training environment, and to focus on dance technique while inspiring dancers to reach their highest level of excellence.
Dance Expressions is highly regarded and recognized for its participation at various performance venues, and its technique and choreography are consistently singled out by judges, instructors, and dance directors at these events.
