About

Adventure Camps at Alice Ferguson Foundation include adventure camps with a variety of nature-inspired themes, immersive outdoor experiences, and outdoor learning experiences. The program features hands-on environmental education and onsite family and community programs. Participants can also take part in the Potomac River Watershed Cleanup.

Since it was established in 1954, the Alice Ferguson Foundation has offered hands-on learning experiences, conservation efforts, and activities connected to the natural world for over 70 years. The organization’s mission is to connect people to nature through hands-on environmental education, outdoor experiences, and community stewardship, and to inspire environmental stewardship by giving people tools to understand, appreciate, and protect nature. The foundation was the first overnight outdoor education center in the region and provides environmental education on the Potomac River, including support for schools that want to become or recertify as Maryland Green Schools.

Community programs at the foundation include volunteer opportunities, community events, and conservation initiatives, with volunteers helping to protect and restore local ecosystems through cleanup events and conservation projects. The Potomac River Watershed Cleanup connects people to their local watershed and reached 421 community members through a cleanup initiative in 2025. A teacher from Rosa Parks Elementary School in October 2019 noted that students were able to see and touch what they were learning and see how science affects them in real life.
