• Schedule: Classes are offered 5 days a week with a variety of daytime, evening, and virtual classes to choose from.
• Price: The program offers a low monthly membership for unlimited classes that is less than once- or twice-a-week programs at other places, with options for twice-a-week or once-a-week classes at an even lower rate.
Jing Ying Institute opened in its present location in November of 2000. Classes are taught by experienced instructors whose backgrounds include national and international rankings, national championships in sparring, and national championships in forms and weapons. The program follows a well structured and progressive curriculum for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students, and tracks the skills covered by each student before they advance. Training uses an integrated martial arts system that includes striking techniques, throws, takedowns, grappling, joint locking, and pressure points, with a progression from practicing with imaginary partners to cooperative partners to sparring with resisting partners.
The institute’s mission is to collect, preserve, and share the philosophy, techniques, and traditions of Tian Shan Pai Gong Fu and Chen Shi TaiJi Quan, to apply these arts to modern times to improve students’ overall health, fitness, and quality of life, to provide a fun, friendly, family environment with rigorous, high level training, and to provide special training opportunities with world class instructors. Its vision is to transform lives and build community by providing an environment where every student, regardless of age, health, or fitness level, can achieve their full potential in body, mind, and spirit and be an active part of the community. Self defense techniques in the program are based on avoiding the use of force against force and using leverage, an understanding of how the body works, and an understanding of how the mind works. Instructors participate in classes, attend workshops, train on their own, and put in time for improvement.
The facility includes 6,000 square feet with 3 separate training areas and an assortment of heavy bags, pads, and other equipment, which provide many training options. All classes are live streamed so registered members can participate online if they are unable to attend in person, and live streams are available to registered members. The program offers two weeks of unlimited classes with a special offer. Jing Ying Institute has been voted “Best of the Bay,” “Best of Annapolis,” “Capital Readers Choice Award,” “Best of Severna Park,” and “Gazette Readers Choice Award” for Best Martial Arts Program, and has also received awards for Best Overall Workout, Best Children’s Activity Center, and Best Summer Camp. The institute also participates in community involvement through Jing Ying’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s Team.
