About
Natural Born Champions Youth & Community Services is a non-profit 501(c)(3) community intervention program that offers educational and professional enrichment services to inner-city youth, educators, and communities in Baltimore, MD. Natural Born Champions has thrived since 2012 with Camp Champions and has implemented various intervention programs that work on many levels to address barriers that push students from pathways full of college and career opportunities and onto the school-to-prison-pipeline. The program serves as a hub of educational and professional development programs and services and as a marketplace for educational resources.
Since 2012, Natural Born Champions has been empowering youth through a number of enrichment programs. NBC’s mission is to serve as an educational and professional development enrichment program that creates successful learning opportunities for youth and sustains healthy communities. NBC states that its programs promote equity, create opportunity, and improve lives and communities, and it identifies its values as AIR: Accountability, Integrity, Responsibility, which it describes as breathing life back into classrooms and communities.
NBC’s CEO is Markia Beckwith. NBC operates through the NBC Multipurpose Center and The NBC Center. The organization has received support and recognition through several grants and fundraising efforts, including a $4,500 Baltimore Civic Fund July 2022 Grant Award, a Baltimore Project Restore Grant in 2022, $24,000 KIVA funding in February 2022, $3,000 KIVA funding in May 2022, $1,600 from the Miles White Beneficial Society in April 2022, and $18,000 from the Mayor's Office of Unemployment for NBC Career Opportunities, contributing to a total of $54,100 toward an NBC fundraising goal of $100,000 as of July 2022.
R & M Trucking was NBC’s first partner and donor. CARS (Charitable Adult Rides & Services) provides vehicle donations as a giving option that helps Natural Born Champions support its mission. Live Benevolent (LB), a mental health outpatient clinic, partnered with NBC to offer holistic therapy. United Way of Central Maryland partners with NBC to take on challenges facing local neighbors and neighborhoods. The Guardians began as a photo documentary and storytelling project to celebrate the unrecognized community work of Black female leaders from Baltimore City neighborhoods and is described as an ongoing exploration of how art can make real, lasting change that can help people see realities and reshape culture.
