Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School is a non-profit educational organization that serves people of all ages, backgrounds, and socioeconomic status. Its mission is to spark lifelong growth through challenging learning expeditions that inspire self-discovery, both in and out of the classroom. The organization works across the DMV and has worked with over 6,000 students across all eight Wards since 2020. The project at its permanent outdoor learning campus in Ward 8 of Washington, D.C. was made possible by a $2 million investment from the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation, the largest in that foundation’s history, in partnership with longtime partners at THEARC (Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus). Outward Bound employees lead groups on wilderness expeditions, work with urban youth in their community, and create a feeling of adventure in the classroom.
