About
Zen Karate Academy offers kid's karate, adult's karate, women's self defense, womens only karate, and traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate. The program also offers self defense seminars, women self defense workshops, and women self defense and sexual assault prevention workshops.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Class options are available on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at various morning and evening times.
The leadership team includes Founder and Chief Instructor Sensei Senbag Rajamani, who is a 6th degree Black Belt and holds a 5th Degree Black Belt in the World Karate Association and a 6th Degree in the International Union of Karate-Do Organizations (IUKO). Instructors include Sensei Dhyan Rajamani, Sensei Yoga Rajamani, and Sensei Mythili Menon, who each hold Second Dan or second degree Black Belts. All dojo instructors are CPR certified and trained in the Sports Injury Prevention program, and Sensei Senbag Rajamani is also CPR and Sports Injury prevention certified.
Zen Karate Academy is a member of the World Karate Association - USA headed by Sensei Thomas Casale and is affiliated with USA Karate, which was formerly the United States of America National Karate-do Federation (USA-NKF) and is recognized as the national governing body for karate by the United States Olympic Committee. Zen Karate Academy, also known as WKA of Washington DC, is a member of the World Karate Association, and Sensei Senbag Rajamani serves as an Executive board member of WKA-PanAM and the International Union of Karate-Do Organizations (IUKO). Sensei Senbag Rajamani has participated in and won several international, national, and regional tournaments in India and the UAE and has been awarded as a Best Instructor many times. Sensei Dhyan Rajamani won Grand Champion (Kata and Kumite) in the Black Belt division in the VA State NKF Championship 2014 and was runner up (Kata and Kumite) in the World Karate Association World Championship in Cancun, Mexico in 2012. Sensei Yoga Rajamani was runner up (Kata) in the World Karate Association World Championship in Cancun, Mexico in 2012.
Sensei Senbag Rajamani has conducted many seminars and organized rallies to support World Peace, National Integration, Environmental Protection, and Women Empowerment with support from organizations such as Lions Club, Rotary Club, and Sierra Club. He has conducted several martial arts programs for women, including free workshops on rape prevention techniques and strategies, Street Aware, and You in You. Sensei Dhyan Rajamani and Sensei Yoga Rajamani have organized many self defense seminars in the Germantown, MD community and conducted women self defense workshops as fundraisers for Nepal Earthquake Relief. Sensei Yoga Rajamani earned her Girl Scout Gold Award by conducting seven women self defense and sexual assault prevention workshops.
